Unified Communications/VOIP Project Goals

The University's current voice communications platform uses several different technologies which increases maintenance and operational costs and limits available features and services. The UC/VOIP project will replace these with a single state-of-the-art Unified Communications system throughout the enterprise. This system will provide common telephony and voice mail services across campus locations.

The UC/VOIP technology will leverage the University's recent data network investment and provide a strong foundation that allows for additional service enhancements that can be added as needed and when developed.

The UC/VOIP project will consist of the following stages:

  1. Install the network and infrastructure upgrades required to support UC/VOIP. This includes network/data_center redundancy to provide improved system reliability.
  2. Perform a detailed inventory of existing telephone sets/features, call center and auto-attendant requirements for each UMDNJ location.
  3. Deploy VOIP phones to all customers and provide training on new features and functionality.
